EMI (Equated Monthly Instalment) is the fixed amount you repay each month on a loan. Use this calculator for any loan — personal, home, car or business — to see your EMI, total interest and a full amortization schedule.

Formula

EMI = P × r × (1 + r)ⁿ ÷ ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1) where P is the loan amount, r the monthly interest rate and n the number of monthly payments.

Example

A $100,000 loan at 10% over 5 years has an EMI of about $2,125 and total interest of roughly $27,480.

Frequently asked questions

What is EMI made up of?

Each EMI covers part interest and part principal. Early EMIs are mostly interest; later ones are mostly principal — the amortization schedule shows the split.

Does prepayment reduce EMI or tenure?

Prepayment usually reduces either your tenure or your future EMIs, and always cuts total interest. Ask your lender which option applies.
